There's Happiness in the Simplicity

Ah LA. 75 Degrees, Erewhon Dragon Fruit Matcha, and 45min to your next exit. How I’ve missed you…
While waiting out traffic, a friend of mine recommended I check out Keith Jackson’s show at Harper’s Gallery called After These Messages. In all honesty, I was expecting some 1Oak energy from the LA gallery scene. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Keith’s story is super unique. At 57, this is his first solo show. He lives in a small town in Wisconsin, and joked about how Kenosha has way too many people…
His work is intentionally simple, and instantly made me feel like I was in his 1970s living room. He fills the gallery’s white walls with vibrant paintings of Spiderman, Magic Johnson, Ozzie Smith…superheroes from his childhood that connected his small town to the rest of the world.
In a time where every painting has a meaning behind a meaning’s meaning, After These Messages was incredibly refreshing. Every generation deserves a Grandma’s living room and morning cartoons. A Mega Man and bowl of Cocoa Puffs.
Maybe we’ve lost site of the simplest things that make us happiest? Or maybe not—thanks to Keith.
Where to next?
Cheers.
Blake, a Frontier Boy
While Blake’s been visiting every gallery/museum he can reach, the team’s been busy with Local Joints Ep. 11-14 to round out 2023. New artists. New markets. New stories.
We start in Peru - our first time in South America - the week after next.
That’s it from us for now. Talk from the road.
